New Jersey Bans Cell Phone Use For All Public Transport Operators
A new law passed in the State of New Jersey, it is illegal for operators of public transport vehicles to use cell phones while in motion.
In the State of New Jersey will now be illegal for operators of vehicles of mass transportation (both those that operate on rails and roads) to use the mobile in motion. This legislation (currently awaiting approval from New Jersey Governor Christie Chris) is the result of an effort by two senators from New Jersey Democratic Party, Nick Sacco of North Bergen and Union City Brian Stack, who gathered New Jersey Assembly passed the bill 74 to 0 -1. The bill aims to prevent tragedies such as public transport 1998 Chatsworth train collision.
Senator Sacco said this about the bill he helped pass, "We know that texting while driving is extremely dangerous, but do so while driving a public transport vehicle when the lives of so many people is game is quite unacceptable, "he said." This legislation sends a strong message to transit employees that such behavior will not be tolerated. Fortunately, the threat of imprisonment and heavy fines for players to think about twice by taking their mobile phones while on duty. "
The sanctions described by Senator Sacco is more difficult than the use of cell phone driving-under-punishing motorists are subjected. Public transport operators found in violation of the new law face a maximum of six months imprisonment, a fine of $ 1,000, or both. These deterrents should be higher for drivers of public transport because they are responsible for the lives of their passengers, and therefore the potential for tragedy is that much greater.
Another important law was passed Senator, Senator Stack, said. "We know that serious accidents can happen when drivers look away from the road only a few seconds, which resulted in serious injury or even death, but when the public transport operator should be distracted, the results can be catastrophic," said Senator. "This law will ensure that bus operators that the text of the message during a workplace has serious consequences for their actions, and puts the driver warned the lawyers take safety seriously."
While many residents of New Jersey and at least one lawyer in New York City are speculating that some of Fela momentum Bill was due to a recent case in which it was captured in New Jersey transit train operator in video subtitles for driving the train, The main impetus for Bill was a 2008 train collision in Chatsworth, California. Called the worst rail accident in the United States in more than a decade of New York lawyers of the railroad in an accident that leads Chatsworth killed 25 people and injured another 100 or more, and the reason was the actor, who was due to a red light and weaving.
A preventable tragedy, says a New York lawyer FELA, who continue to speculate whether a text message more important than the safety of passengers. "I hope that this bill would send a strong message that public safety always takes precedence over any need to send an SMS message" answers assemblyman Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. (D-Middlesex). "A text message can wait. Safety of public transport can not. " As a supporter of the bill, Diegnan believes "Some people have become so dependent on their electronic designs that they put others at risk without thinking of the consequences." Well, the consequences could be huge, just ask someone who is related to the tragedy in Chatsworth. Now, the New Jersey Public Transit drivers are not worried about the consequences of their actions must face the consequences of their selfishness.
